A CONTINENTAL market returns to New Brighton promenade this weekend.

Around 50 traders will sell gastronomic delights and craft items from their native countries during the event, taking place on Ian Fraser Walk from Saturday and finishing on Bank Holiday Monday.

Its aim is to help bring the promenade to life and add to existing attractions that have helped make the area popular.

A selection of local crafters and producers will also be on hand, helping to give this event a unique feel, and meaning there should be something for everyone.

It will be open from 10am-6pm Saturday to Monday.

The market's visit to New Brighton is part of its 2018 tour.

It is operated by Liverpool-based RR Events, specialising in special event and themed markets. Managing director Tony Walsh said: "Our team of staff and traders have been involved in markets across Europe for over 10 years.

"We are particularly proud of our Continental Street Market brand, as we know the atmosphere that it brings to the towns and cities we visit.

"We would like to thank Wirral Council for their hard work facilitating the event, and hope that it's well received locally as it has been previously."

Caroline Laing, the council's constituency manager for Wallasey, said: "We are really pleased to see the return of the Continental Street Market to New Brighton for the bank holiday weekend and want to thank all those in New Brighton Coastal Community Team, colleagues in the council and other groups and organisations who have worked hard to continue to bring a range of events to the town.

"The Market is just one part of an exciting calendar of events planned for throughout the year which we expect will attract even more people to visit our beautiful coastline and enjoy the wonderful facilities right on our doorstep."
