FIREFIGHTERS were called to New Ferry in the early hours of this morning to tackle a large blaze at a furniture warehouse.
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called at around 2.55am to New Ferry Road.
Nearby householders were advised to keep their doors and windows closed as smoke billowed from the building.
Three main jets and a hose were used and five fire appliances attended.
By around 4.30am the incident was being scaled down.
There were no reports of any injuries or rescues at the scene.
Station manager Mark Thomas said: "The fire involved furniture in a storage area in a yard which had spread to the roof of a single-storey building.
"People living in the area were advised to keep doors and windows shut to prevent smoke from the fire entering their property.
"Firefighters worked quickly at the scene to make sure there was enough water to extinguish the fire and to stop the fire spreading to nearby properties.
"Firefighters are likely to be on scene for a number of hours carrying out damping down operations and an investigation into the cause will take place."
