PUPILS from Ladymount Catholic Primary School in Pensby have created ceramic poppies and statues of soldiers as part of their First World War centenary commemorations.
Children have been taking part in a creative project focusing on the start of war and the sacrifices made by soldiers.
The school is one of 28 in Wirral that have taken part in the project. Their work is on display at Birkenhead Park Visitors Centre from today until Friday, November 21.
Year two teacher Tracy Swindlehurst said: "This was our way of doing something to remember the bravery of so many soldiers who gave their lives.
"Year six pupils were studying the war as part of the new curriculum and Year two wanted to get involved in the project.
"We wanted to buy a poppy from the Tower of London, but were unable to get down there. So it was good to get involved in a project like this. It's been a real education for the children."
Project co-ordinator Ian Fennell said: "Together we have recreated a WW1 regiment, with each school's contribution being their own pals battalion. The display officially opens today to mark the centenary.
"There is additional work on display such as poems and stories, as well as poppies and barbed wire spread on the floor in between the figures. There are over 100 figures set out in rows of four."
