SILENT tributes will be paid to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts across the world during Remembrance Sunday services in Wirral today.
The mayor, Cllr Steve Foulkes, will join service men and women, their families, and representatives of the armed forces at The Cenotaph in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead at 10.55am.
Cllr Foulkes said: "It is always one of the most important duties of every mayor to remember and commemorate the sacrifices made by Armed Forces personnel past and present, as well as those of their families.
"This year has particular resonance because we will be marking the centenary of the start of the First World War.
"I was recently honoured to help launch this year's poppy appeal here in Wirral, and I would encourage everyone to wear their poppy with pride."
