A MAN suffering from anaphylactic shock was rescued from Hilbre Island by West Kirby lifeboat crew on Saturday afternoon.
The lifeboat was launched at around 3.45pm following a request from Liverpool Coastguard.
The 30-year-old man was visiting the area from Manchester with his partner and had intended to stay overnight on the island.
However, whilst swimming offshore, he was stung by jellyfish and consequently incapacitated by shock.
Fortunately, there was a doctor and a nurse nearby who were with friends enjoying the afternoon on the island.
They removed the jellyfish from the man's arm and administered first aid and medication at the scene.
During the journey to the mainland the injured man continued to receive first aid from the lifeboat crew as he was shaking and suffering the effects of shock.
Once at the West Kirby slipway he was handed over to the waiting ambulance team and dispatched in the company of his concerned partner to the Wirral University Hospital.
