Wirral people aged between 40 and 74 will soon receive an invitation from their GP to attend a free NHS health check.

The check up aims to help prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and types of dementia, which are the biggest causes of preventable deaths in the UK.

In Wirral, early death rates from heart disease and stroke have fallen, but still remain worse than the England average.

It has also been estimated that at any one time, Wirral has around 4,000 people who may have heart disease, but are totally unaware of it.

If you are in the appropriate age group and have not had an invitation from your GP to attend for a health check yet, you can contact your surgery to find out more.
