TRANMERE Rovers play only their second ever friendly against Burnley tonight when they entertain the Clarets at Prenton Park.

The one previous meeting was a 4-0 home defeat on July 26 1969 in front of just under 5,000 supporters.

Rovers Boss Ronnie Moore is without midfielder James Wallace, striker Akpo Sodje and defender Danny Holmes due to injury while striker Ryan Lowe is a doubt with a slight groin strain.

Tonight's game follows Rovers' pre-season friendly with Accrington Stanley, which took place on Saturday and ended in 1-1 draw.

A goal from Chris Atkinson gave Rovers a goal, but Moore felt his team were not sharp enough.

Burnley come to Prenton Park on the back of a 4-1 win at Carlisle United. Sean Dyche's team have also beaten Cork City 3-0 and lost 1-0 against Morecambe.

On his squad's opponents tonight, Ronnie Moore said: "They’ll move the ball quicker and they’ll be the strongest team we’ll play before the season starts.

"It's a tester for us and it will be a tough game. They’ve got quality players in there and if we give the ball away we’re going to know about it.

"We need to get the ball and move it a lot quicker than we did on Saturday.

"But it’s not an FA Cup game, it’s a pre-season game that we’re looking to get fitness from. It’s not about results, it’s about progression."

Kick off is 7.45pm.
