Eighty people were evacuated following reports of a fire under a train at a Wirral railway station.
Crews from Birkenhead and Wallasey firestations were called to Bebington station in Old Chester Road at 9.50am on Monday after witnesses reported smoke coming from a train travelling from Chester to Liverpool.
The incident involved a fan underneath the engine which caused smoke damage to the carriage.
Merseyrail say the smoke had been caused by a power surge on the line.
Watch manager Simon Ashton of Birkenhead fire station said: "The track was isolated and we were assisted by rail engineers.
"Firefighters cooled the fan with water and extinguished the fire from underneath the train."
