Wirral actor Dean Sullivan appears at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton later this year in a show bringing together the worlds of stand-up comedy and musical theatre for the first time.

The former Brookside star plays wise and witty comedy club manager Bob Fletcher in Stand Up: The Musical, which will be staged at the seaside venue from September 3-7.

Joining him is West End star Darren Day as Tony Monore, funnyman Billy Pearce as Stan Chester and brand new comic performer Matt Wilman as Scott Thomas are three comedians who all looking for the same thing.

The story shows the ups and downs, pitfalls and inside dealings of the world of TV, comedy and entertainment.

Also in the cast is legendary entertainer Lionel Blair is the canny and ruthless, but hilarious agent Oliver Squires.

Looking forward to the show Dean, who played Jimmy Corkhill in the Liverpool-based Channel Four soap, told the Globe: “It’s a unique piece, because it’s the first musical about stand-up comedy and something we are all very excited about.

"It’s a superb cast. I’ve met Lionel over the years, but never actually worked with him. So, it’s going to be great to work with him on this show."

The show’s routines are intertwined in a story that shows the ups and downs, pitfalls and inside dealings of the world of TV, comedy and entertainment and exposes their jaw-dropping antics.

Dean, who lives in Egremont, continued: “If the show’s Wirral run is a success, we’re hoping to take it on tour.

“Another reason why I’m delighted to be starring in a show at the Floral Pavilion Theatre is because it’s just down the road from where I live.

“It means I can walk to and from the theatre every day, something I miss when I’m touring in shows.”

The show’s story, music and lyrics were written by Daryl Denham and Maurice Cheetham. It is directed and choreographed by Anthony Williams.

Daryl, a former Radio City presenter, currently hosts the weekend breakfast show on Smooth Radio.

He spent a short time in the nineties dabbling in stand up comedy and his love of the subject was the inspiration for ‘Stand Up – The Musical’.

Together with Maurice Cheetham he has written songs for Westlife, M People vocalist Heather Small, Kid Creole, Black Lace and former Brookside star Ricky Tomlinson.
