MORE than 200 people have now registered for this year's Hoylake 10K Coastal charity fun run.

Taking place on Sunday, September 15, the Globe-backed event raises funds for a special needs club in the town.

It starts outside Hoylake Community Centre in Hoyle Road at 11am. Organisers told the Globe that 240 have signed up so far.

All proceeds will go towards the Wednesday Special Needs Club's Soft Play Sensory Resource, which is based in the centre. Last year a record 823 people took part, raising more than £9,000.

Runners will follow a course along the promenade, dropping off the Meols embankment for a short distance, through the car park by Leasowe Lighthouse and back onto the embankment towards Leasowe Castle Hotel. At the 5k marker, runners return back along the same route.

Urging more people to sign up for the event, race secretary Carla Williams said: "It's the middle of July now, and there are still just over eight to go until this year's event.

"Last year we had a record 823 people sign, with 722 taking part in the end on the day.

"It was part of a big year of sport, especially in terms of the Olympics, and a lot of people were inspired to get into sport. So, although it would be nice to have the same level of turnout this time around, I don't think it will happen.

Putting the runners under starters orders last year was Wirral West MP Esther McVey.

First man across the finish line was Greg Jones from Wallasey AC in 33 minutes 59 seconds.

First woman to finish was Sophie Hunt, also from Wirral AC, in 38 mins and 10 seconds.

Entry forms for this year’s race are from the event's organiser Carla Williams on 0151 625 9505.
