CHARLIE Landsborough has extended the deadline for a competition giving amateur Wirral choirs a chance to join him on the Liverpool leg of his UK tour.

The Birkenhead-born country artist returns to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Sunday, November 3 as part of the tour for his 29th album Silhouette. He is giving amateur Wirral choirs a chance to open the show.

Each concert on the 20-date tour will be opened by a choir from the local area and the Amateur Choir Challenge has been launched to find Wirral's lucky band of vocalists.

Not only will the winning choir get to perform on stage and the overall winner receive £1000, but the whole venture will benefit Children In Need.

The competition was due to close at the end of this month, but the deadline has been extended until August 31.

Charlie’s management company told the Globe that there has been a good response to the competition so far.

Inviting more choirs to take part, Charlie told the Globe today: “I know I will draw great pleasure from hearing the various choral interpretations of some of my songs.

“They will be experiences I never could have imagined I would have. Great also to know that it will all be in a worthwhile charitable cause. Can't wait!

“I love to hear groups of people singing together, be it a football match or a church and I'm thrilled that I will get to hear a variety of choral arrangments of my songs. Children in Need , the choirs and the audiences will benefit and I certainly will too. Roll on the autumn!”

There are plenty of styles to choose from – harmony, country, rock, blues, ballads, gospel, there are uptempo songs and there are slow ones, something to suit everyone.

Choirs can have up to a maximum of 25 members including conductor. Choirs can be all male, all female, mixed, school choirs etc.

They can enter as many pre-recorded Charlie Landsborough original songs as they wish. Professional studio type recordings are not necessary, personal recording will be adequate.

The cost of each entry is £25, reducing if more than one entry.

The choir will be able to sing two songs, at least one being a Charlie Landsborough original.

Each choir's performance will be recorded throughout the tour and these recordings will be judged by an independent panel.

The overall winner will receive £1000 donated by Charlie for their choir’s funds.

If the choice of Charlie's songs by the choirs have enough variation an album will be produced to be sold with all profits going to Children In Need.
