POLICE arrested five people in a crackdown on businesses that allegedly supply cannabis growing equipment.

Around 50 officers raided premises in Birkenhead, Fazakerley, Clubmoor, Everton, Kirkby, St Helens and Liverpool this morning. Four men and a woman were arrested for offences including cannabis cultivation and supply.

Officers also seized large numbers of cannabis plants and a significant amount of cash.

Detective Superintendent Chris Green from the anti-gun and gang crime Matrix unit, said the operation sent out a warning to other businesses profiting from criminal activity.

He said: "Our focus has been to target the unscrupulous sellers of cannabis- growing equipment who enable large cannabis farms to get set up."
