MERSEYSIDE’S elected crime chief held her first meeting with local youngsters in a bid to hear their views on the issues affecting their communities.

Jane Kennedy, police commissioner for Merseyside, met her youth advisory group in Liverpool last night to look at how policing affects them and what support is available for victims.

Among the matters discussed were what the young people expected of Ms Kennedy and also how they could work together in the future as part of the group.

And it is hoped the meetings will go some way to influence how the commissioner works.

She said: “The idea of this group is to make sure that I don't make decisions based on what I think young people want from the criminal justice system. I hope that these young people will identify, challenge and debate the issues that matter to them so that I and other partners have a better understanding.

“I am very much looking forward to working with them.”
