Ryan Lowe scored his ninth and tenth goals of pre-season as Tranmere Rovers defeated Altrincham 3-1 at on Tuesday night.

The striker was joined up front by new signing Akpo Sodje and the pair both found the net before being substituted at half time.

Lowe's first chance came on three minutes and he, like Andy Robinson two minutes later, saw his effort blocked. However, on eight minutes Lowe opened the scoring, volleying in with his right foot from Joe Thompson's cross.

Twenty minutes on and the pair combined again, with Lowe getting in front of his marker at the near post to head in the second from Thompson's right wing ball into the area.

After Sodje headed wide from an Evan Horwood cross on 35 minutes, he added the third a minutes from half time, turning in from close range after the Altrincham keeper had dropped a cross. Two Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro shots were blocked in the second half before Altrincham pulled a goal back through Damian Reeves.

Shaun Jeffers went close to scoring a fourth for Rovers while Owain Fon Williams kept the lead at two goals on 84 minutes with a dive to his left to keep out a shot from the edge of the area.

The result made it five back-to-back pre-season victories for Rovers.

Tranmere will play Championship side Burnley in another friendly next Tuesday, July 23, at Prenton Park. Kick-off will be at 7.45pm.

Season ticket holders will get reduced price admission.
