THIS weekend's Wirral Race For Life heralds the start of a summer of activities in Birkenhead Park.

More than 3,500 women have registered for the Globe-backed event in aid of Cancer Research UK. To join them, visit www.raceforlife.org

Events taking place in the world-famous park next week are, as follows: 

Monday, July 22: Back to the Wilderness Enjoy the outdoors, den building and forest games. 10.30-2.30pm. Bring a picnic.

Tuesday, July 23 Back to the Wilderness Enjoy the outdoors, den building and forest games. Bring a picnic. For accompanied children 5-10 years. 10.30-2.30pm.

Wednesday, July 24: Teddy Bears Picnic Bring a picnic and your teddy bear and enjoy story time in the park. Suitable for families with children under 8. 11.30am-2pm.

Thursday, July 25: Native American Indian Day Tales and crafts with the rangers and children’s centres in the Walled Garden, Central Park, Liscard. For accompanied children up to 12 years old. 

Sunday, July 28: 2.30-4.30pm: Comedy of Errors. Enjoy an afternoon of fun with Off The Ground’s latest production, bring a picnic and a seat! Tickets £12, £7 cons and £5 under 21s

Tuesday, July 30: July 10.30 to 12noon and 1-2.30pm Bees, Moths, and Butterflies Find out how to identify these insects! Crafts, information and a chance to explore in the park.

Among next months events is a Wirral Flower and Vegetable show on Sunday, August 11 from midday-4pm. Call into visitor centre for booking information.

Mr Bike-it will give children help to ride your bike. Groups please book on Monday, August 12 from 10am-midday. Suitable for any age.

Also that day, visitors can talk part in an orienteering for all event between 2-3.30pm Find out how to read a map and use the new trail in Birkenhead Park. For accompanied children 5 years and over.

On Thursday, August 15 there is a Wuds4fun bowling event on the park greens from 10am-midday.

That evening there is a Bat Walk from 9pm-10.30pm. For accompanied children over 8.
