TRANMERE Rovers have won the first of their four pre-season friendlies following a 2-0 win over Marine at the weekend.

Striker Ryan Lowe's eighth goal in pre-season and Jake Kirby's third took Ronnie Moore's squad to victory.

The win followed a 5-0 drubbing of Rhyl at the club’s Belle Vue ground on Friday night.

Last Tuesday, Lowe scored his fifth and sixth goals of pre-season as Tranmere came from behind to defeat Heswall 4-1 at Gayton Park.

And Lowe scored four of the goals that earned the side a 9-0 victory of Cammell Laird’s at Kirklands on Monday night.

Rovers' pre-season continues tomorrow night, against Altrincham, while on Saturday they will be facing Accrington Stanley.

Manager Ronnie Moore says he will be using the next two games to make final decisions over some of the trialists.

Nine players were involved in Friday's 5-0 win at Rhyl and Saturday's 2-0 victory over Marine, some will stay at Prenton Park for another week.

Moore told Rovers' website: "The lads have trained really hard and worked really well in all the games.

"We're at the stage now where we're looking for 90 minutes from the players and that will start on Tuesday.

"We've got to dismiss one or two of the trialists who we don't think will make it with us and keep one or two to see how the next two games go for them next week.

"It's not cut and dried for two or three of them."

Ronnie said the squad is benefitting from their pre-season work: "We want to move the ball quicker, we gave it away in one or two daft areas.

"The more games they play the fitter they'll get.

"It's has been hard today in the heat.

"We've got a night game on Tuesday which will help us but we've just got to get used to it."

The boss was also hoping to add a couple of new names to the squad this week.

He said: "We're hoping to do a bit of business with a striker on Monday, we're a long way down the line with that one.

"I'd rather have too many strikers than too few like we had last year. It might be that we end up with five, we want to make sure we don't get caught like we did last season."
