A SUMMER ball in memory of a Wirral man who died from an aggressive form of cancer has raised £13,000 for two charities.

Funds from Anthony's Grand Summer Ball, held at Thornton Hall and Spa on June 22, will be split between Wirral Hospice St. John’s and Mesothelioma UK.

More than 200 people attended the event, which was in memory of Anthony Cope who lost his brave fight to Mesothelioma in December. Entertainment on the night came from Wirral band Tequila.

Anthony, from Bromborough, was described by all who knew him as a fantastic, inspirational man who was caring and sharing, wise, intelligent and witty. Anthony always put others first.

He was described by his children Anna, Sara and Christian as the most wonderful, amazing dad.

Wife Teresa described him as her best friend and the most loving and caring husband.

His daughter Anna told the Globe: "Having been left heartbroken the family decided to try and do something positive with all their emotions and hold a charity ball in loving memory of dad.

"It was such a special night and so nice to be able to have a night dedicated to the most amazing man we have ever known.

"On behalf of the family would like to thank everyone who attended and all the brilliant sponsors and people who donated, the family and both charities are truly grateful."
