FORMER Dr Who star Colin Baker will share tales of his stint as the Timelord with fans when he visits Seacombe Spaceport next weekend.

The 70-year-old actor and one-time contestant on ITV's I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here, played the sixth embodiment of the celebrated timetraveller from 1984 to 1986.

He will be at the Seacombe Spaceport on Saturday, July 20 between 10am–4pm.

Reflecting on his time as the cult figure, who has spawned an international fanbase of millions, London-born Colin told the Globe this afternoon: "There are a lot of actors out there who don’t like to be reminded of certain roles they have played, but I'm not one of those people.

"In fact, I'm very happy to say that I'm not ashamed or embarrassed by the my time show. I have fond memories.

"It was an important part of my career, one of the many highlights in fact, and been very good to me. I had a brilliant time playing him."

He joked: "It was a role that gave me many powers, including the ability to stop young children crying in supermarkets. I stop and talk to them and people would say 'that’s Dr Who helping out'.

"It's a show that’s evolving all the time and I was honoured to have been a part of it.

"I was immortalised in a postage stamp, along with the others who have played him, as part of the show’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

"I'm so busy with Dr Who-related gigs for the rest of the year, that I've had to cancel a lot of theatre work."

Colin is one of 10 actors who have played the Doctor since the programme was first broadcast in 1963.

The others who have stepped into the character's shoes are William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith, who is leaving the role.

Colin continued: "I’m really enjoying Matt Smith in the role. He’s playing the part really well."

Asked which Dr Who baddie he would like to play, Colin replied: “I would love to play dalek master Davros, because it’s a role that I would be able to do sitting down.

"Another charcter I'd love to play is the double of Dr Who, but is his nemesis."

Colin was the fourth person voted off I’m a Celebrity last year, after a head-to-head Bushtucker Trial with darts legend Eric Bristow.

He said: "It's not something I'd want to do again, but looking back it was an enjoyable and interesting experience in the Australian jungle.

"The best part after being voted off was getting to see my family who were in hotel an hour and a half away."

His visit will launch The Time Travellers exhibition, which also includes replica Doctor Who costume characters ranging from the 1970s to the present day.

Also on view will be life-size Daleks, Cybermen, a TARDIS display, a Sontaran, a scary Weeping Angel and K9 –plus prop weapons and an activity area.

On his forthcoming trip to Wirral, he said: "I've never been to Spaceport before, but am looking forward to it because I’ve heard it’s a great place with lots for sci-fi fans to enjoy and I'm looking forward to meeting them."
