WIRRAL Libraries are taking part in a national scheme to promote reading among adults.

Reading Rewards encourages adults to read 8 books during the summer and autumn, with a particular focus on getting people to try genres they might not have read before.

Participants will be entered into a prize draw, with prizes supplied by Time To Read, the North West Libraries Development Partnership.

Cllr Chris Meaden, cabinet member for health and wellbeing said: "This challenge runs alongside our Summer Reading Challenge for children, and is designed to encourage parents and older siblings to join in the fun and read something they might not ordinarily pick up."

Categories include: classic novels, contemporary novels, biography or memoir, romance or family saga, crime, adventure, thriller or western, something historical, sci-fi, fantasy or horror, poetry, drama or short stories and young adult fiction or graphic novel.

Wirral libraries will be organising special book displays, to help readers make their choice. The initiative runs until October 31.
