The NHS is 65 years old this month!

Did you know that both men and women live an average of 10 years longer than they did before the NHS was introduced in 1948? Over the past 65 years the NHS has continued to grow, evolve and improve to give you access to the healthcare you need, where and when you need it, and for as long as you need it!

Today, staff across the NHS are in contact with more than 1.5 million patients and their families everyday.

At Wirral Community NHS Trust, we are incredibly proud to be a part of the NHS which brings health and care into your local community.

In the past year alone:

• our Community Nurses carried out 281,500 appointments
• our Phlebotomy Service took 230,000 blood samples
• our GP Out of Hours service had more than 92,090 contacts
• nearly 85,000 people were treated for minor injuries and illnesses at one of our Walk-in Centres
• our Physiotherapists carried out over 72,000 consultations
• our Community Equipment service delivered 41,000 pieces of equipment
• there were 16,600 appointments and gym attendances with our Heart Support services
• our Public Health services had 18,000 contacts to supporting people who wanted to adopt a healthier lifestyle e.g. quit smoking, lose weight, get fit, eat healthier, learn relaxation techniques
• over 14,600 patients attended walk-in and pre-booked appointments with our Sexual Health team.

As the NHS evolves, so does your opportunity to influence it.  Already over 4,000 of you across Wirral have become members of your local NHS Trust playing a greater part in shaping your community NHS services.
