A MAN is due to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court charged with attempted murder following the stabbing of a man in Birkenhead yesterday.

James Reginald Turner, 57, of Market Street, Birkenhead was remanded in custody following the stabbing of a man in his 50s in Market Street.

The victim sought help at a chemists in Market Street where emergency services were called. Paramedics took him to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital for treatment.

His condition is currently described as serious but stable. The injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police officers cordoned off the area where the incident occurred and detectives carried out house-to-house enquiries.

A knife has been recovered from the area and is being forensically examined.
