CHESTER Zoo's new baby elephant has been named following a public vote.
The zoo teamed up with BBC Earth Unplugged to run a special poll and the calf was later called Bala, meaning 'a girl' in Hindi.
The name was the outright favourite, pulling in 55% of the vote, while other options included Danti, Nandita and Nanda.
Bala, who was the second baby elephant to be born at the zoo in just eight weeks, arrived at 11pm on January 21.
