I am amazed and annoyed in equal measure at the vast amount of campaigners to save the Great Eastern pub.
Local icon? Local eyesore more like.
With its littered and overgrown grounds, graffiti- scrawled walls, and hideous steel shutters on the windows, the Great Eastern’s only purpose is to serve as a local hang out for adolescents who drink, smoke, and even set fires in its grounds.
I am astonished that so many local residents would rather have a run down, boarded up old building in their area, than smart new homes for the already struggling first-time buyer.
Local councillors are so busy banging on about its history and iconic structure to see it for what it has turned in to - a mess!
“Historical maritime pub”?
If it's such a local landmark, then treat it with the respect it deserves instead of letting it go to rack and ruin.
The plans for redevelopment were deemed “extremely poor” and “two large monolith structures with little interest or characteristics.”
Maybe they were, but look what we’re now stuck with instead!
Angry resident.
