THE row over the closure of Ss Peter and Paul church in New Brighton has been a public relations disaster for the Catholic Diocese of Shrewsbury and there’s no end in sight as the parishioners will fight on to have the church reopened.
I wonder if the large amount of money given to the protestant church of All Saints came out of the estimated £350,000 of Gift Aid money given by Ss Peter and Paul parishioners which has been sitting in a bank account controlled by the Diocese and presumably earninginterest?
The Government should tighten up the rules on Gift Aid to make all Dioceses fully accountable to parishioners for how their Gift Aid money is spent.
