Wirral’s Euro MP is calling for speed limits to be reduced to 20mph.
Department of Transport figures show that in 2006, 184 pedestrians were injured on the roads of Wirral, some of these were very serious and even fatal.
The government is preparing a road safety strategy for the next decade and will publish proposals later this year.
Wirral Euro-MP Chris Davies, while serving as an MP in 1997, introduced a Bill in the House of Commons to reduce speeds to 20mph in side streets He said: ““The Government’s own transport department has found that the risk of a child being involved in an accident has reduced by around two-thirds where 20mph zones have been introduced.”
