ALL-ROUNDER Shakeel Nawaz starred for Birkenhead St Mary’s in a 166 runs Bromborough Paints Merseyside and Southport Alliance derby success over Caldy on Saturday.
Nawaz produced a century knock and then enjoyed a 6-35 haul. Haroon Khan claimed 4-45 for the Paton Field side.
Tranmere Vics were whipped by Alder after making just 41 as Alan Durand returned 6-17 for the visitors. Rain took away a winning chance for Parkfield Liscard against Haydock. Steve Lewis made 54 for the combined side and Adam Young a half century. Neston drew against Toft in the Premier Division of the Right Move Abroad Cheshire County League in a game shortened by the elements. Jack Smith struck 76 with James Escott taking 4-11. Rain also wrecked Upton’s hopes against Christleton in Division One.
The Birkenhead Park v Oxton derby ended early with Park on 126-7 chasing a declared score of 200-6. Chris Ainsworth finished with 6-45 for Park and Tim Hunter top scored on 73. Chris Outram contributed 76 for Upton and Colin Davies 60.
Irby sneaked in by three wickets in a low scoring affair at Sale in Division Two. Dave Collyer’s 7-38 was the key for Irby who have a good lead at the head of the table.
Parkonians were edged out by one wicket at Castrol Superseal in Division Three of the Meller Braggins Cheshire League.
In the Merseyside Competition Port Sunlight claimed the derby against Bromborough by 130 runs. Mike Graham made 51 and Brendan Woods 42 for Sunlight. Darcy Ward finished with 5-91 for Pool.
Maritime got home by six wickets at the expense of Singlehurst. Shaftesbury did not have a fixture.
