THIS year’s Frank Hurst Trophy was won last Wednesday by West Kirby Victoria on the ESWA green when they beat Kendal by 31 shots.
The handicappers gave the second division team 30 shots but on the night it was not quite enough. West Kirby’s Captain Ian Sherbrooke gave them an excellent start with a 21-07 win and though Kendal fought hard and won four of the games a brilliant 21-04 win by West Kirby’s last man, Frank O’Neill, confirmed that the first division team took this particular trophy for the first time.
On Saturday afternoon, Gladstone won the Bebington League’s Leverhulme Cup with a decisive win over Tixall.
In the evening The Wallasey League’s Presidents Cup was won by Manor Road.
The game was played at Hoylake Central in terrible conditions with both strong winds and heavy rain.
On Sunday the Birkenhead and District parks team had a great win over Warwickshire.
They had 10 winners in the home leg with a tremendous 21-02 win by Tony Sullivan the pick of the bunch.
Higher Tranmere’s Robbie Fitzpatrick won the Liverpool Olympic Club Classic Tournament beating D. Jackson of Macclesfield 21-11 in the Final.
On Friday, the final of the Birkenhead and Wirral CGBL Afternoon Section Shield will take place at the ESWA Club’s green. This will be between Upton Victory hall and Hr. Tranmere and the match will get underway at 1.30pm.
There are still spaces in the popular Pensby Mixed Double Pairs Tournament.
