HOYLAKE Sailing Club enjoyed a successful Regatta at Beaumaris during the Menai Strait Festival after an hour-long wait for the breeze.
A special course was set and most classes were able to complete the full four lap distance.
The Hoylake Operas had the Gough Trophy at stake and it was claimed by Gavin Melling in La Tosca which went clear in the closing stages.
Kay Johnston guest helming aboard Aquilla dominated in the Falcons and a conclusive success earned her the Jack Orrell Cup.
The Hilbres in their 50th Anniversary year were eleven strong. Roger Glover in Highwayman led nearly all the way for his first success in the Fortnight which put his name on the Hilarity Poignard.
The Stars enjoyed a good race with David Mayhew in Jupiter eventually pulling away to lift the Star Vase.
Paul Flower gained the winning gun in the Mersey Mylnes after being pushed all the way by Mermaid and Andy Watson took pole position in the Wallasey Seabirds in Sandpiper.
There was a smart south westerly for the Royal Mersey Regatta also at Beaumaris 24 hours later and the sunshine provided a bonus.
Chris Kay brought Meridian home first in the Mylnes for the Charles Mack Trophy and other winners included Aquilla this time sailed by John Corkhill, Tim Riley in the Hilbre Hirondelle, La Tosca in the Operas, Richard Booth in the Star Vega and Peter Tarbuck in Blue Duster in the Offshore fleet.
Conditions remained changeable for the closing events which many crews opted to miss.
