VISITOR numbers for the Open Championships have reached more than 49,000 today.
More than 15,000 of those people travelled by train to Hoylake..
Merseyrail said today it is the largest ever number to have used the Wirral Line in one day and rail travel remains one of the best ways to get to the Championships.
The public transport network is continuing to run smoothly and the operation of getting visitors to and from the course is proving a huge success.
Passenger figures on the rail network so far.
Wednesday, July 19: Around 8,000 passengers used Merseyrail (for a practice day that was three times more than expected) Thursday, July 20: Around 10,000 passengers used Merseyrail. That's more than one a quarter of the total number of visitors to the Open Golf on Thursday, which was around 38,500
