A WIRRAL man died after falling from a bridge in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Emergency services were called to reports of a man threatening to jump from a road bridge on Borough Road in Birkenhead at around 12.45am.
Police attended the scene and found the 39-year-old man in a distressed state who was threatening to jump from the bridge near to the junction of Clifton Road.
A cordon was set up and the Force negotiator attended the scene.
During negotiations the man fell from the bridge and sustained multiple injuries. He was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital where he later died.
A Home Office post mortem is due to be carried out.
Merseyside Police has referred the incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
