The driver of a goods vehicle stopped leaving the Queensway tunnel because it was thought the weight limit might have been exceeded was found to be more than three times the legal alcohol level, Wirral Magistrates were told by prosecutor Michael Cain.
Paul Ward,40, of Stavordale Road, Moreton, pleaded guilty to drink-driving.
ohn Weate, defending, said he offered no excuse for the offence which had cost him his job.
He was going through a difficult period following the breakdown of his marriage.
Ward must serve 80 hours of unpaid work. He had to pay £65 costs and was banned from driving for two years.
