THE MET Office has issued Merseyside with a yellow weather warning as frozen roads and surfaces are expected to continue into the weekend.

Metrologists initially issued the warning for Thursday but have since extended and updated it to last through the week and into the weekend.

The warning comes into force from 4pm today, Thursday, December 8, and is expected to last until midnight on Saturday, December 10.

Temperatures are expected to reach as low as 0C over the weekend with highs of just 4C.

Experts have warned road users to be careful when driving over icy patches on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths. Injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces are also expected.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “Frequent wintry showers are likely to fall onto frozen surfaces in places, leading to the formation of icy patches.

“These showers are expected to fall as snow on high ground, with the potential for several centimetres to accumulate, especially over the high ground of north Wales.”
