A Wirral cancer patient who launched a fundraising campaign for hospital equipment to help others in her situation was joined by family and friends on a special charity walk.

Lauren Upshall from Pensby was diagnosed with breast cancer in November last year, aged just 36.

Despite facing 20 rounds of chemotherapy, she decided she wanted to raise £20,000 to provide Clatterbridge Cancer centre with a new 'cold cap' to help others in her position, preserve their hair during treatment.

To support the campaign, Lauren (pictured, below) organised a walk to Hilbre Island , which took the fundraising total to just under £40,000.

Lauren recalled: "I organised a walk to hilbre with my friends and family. My Pink Army!!

"We had a fab day, stopped for pink fizz on the island!

"We then headed home to my house for cake and more fizz all in aid of my gofund me which is nearly up to £40k."

Joining Lauren for the walk were husband Matt, mum Denise Davies, aunt Helen Law, brother-in-law Sean Salmon and cousin Rosalyn Law.

The gang also included friends Soraya, Tasha, Jenni, Kate, Ben, Diane, Carl, Jane, Sue, Julie, Sar Sar, Lily, Lisa, Janet, Liv, Sophie, Sandra and Claire.

Lauren's Gofundme appeal was launched earlier this week and raised more than £4,000 in 24 hours. Thanks to the public's amazing generosity, it has now passed just over £39,500.

Rachel Wood, a friend of Lauren's, told the Globe in January: "She's inspired everyone around her and we’ve all decided on different ways to help her raise money.

"The support she’s received has been immeasurable."

Appealing for the public's support on her Gofundme page, Lauren wrote in January: "I was living my best life, I got married six months ago which was the best day of my life.

"We where just finding our feet in married life then BOOM! On November 22, 2021 I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

"As you can imagine my world felt like it had crashed down around me.

"I was in shock and disbelief I felt like I was too young for this.

"I felt like my body which I work so hard to keep fit and healthy had failed me.

"But then I pulled myself together and decided to take on this battle with all my strength and positive power.

"I have the most amazing positive army supporting me in my family and friends. I am so lucky.

"This nasty "Mr Cancer" can do one and we will show it who is boss. It's picked on the wrong person here … Watch this space!

"So I've started my chemotherapy treatment and I've been lucky enough to be offered the cool cap to help preserve my hair.

"I found out during treatment these machines cost £20,000 and are non-NHS funded. Clatterbridge fund them themselves.

"For this reason I want to give them a new one so that other people facing this battle will have the opportunity to use it in the future as everyone should be able to access them.

"So please help in anyway you can and please keep your eyes peeled for what "My Amazing Army" will be doing over the next few months to help me raise this.

"Thank you so much in advance to everyone.

"Let's do this …… x"
