A FIRE has broken out at a chemical plant in Ellesmere Port.
Firefighters have been working to put out the flames as plumes of black smoke can be seen in the air.
The blaze is said to be not toxic, but emergency services are advising residents to “close windows and doors” if smoke is blowing in the direction of their property.
The incident is believed to have started at 11.49am this morning at a chemical company on Oil Sites Road.
Fire engines from Ellesmere Port, Chester, Runcorn, Powey Lane and Merseyside have been tackling the blaze.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Rescue & Fire Service said: “Firefighters are tackling a fire within an outbuilding at a company on Oil Sites Road.
“The main gas and electricity supplies have been isolated and the fire is being fought using foam.
“The fire has now been suppressed.
“Although there is a lot of smoke it is not toxic; however, it is always advisable to close windows and doors if smoke is blowing in the direction of your property.”
