An investigation has begun after the body of man was found in a Birkenhead dock today.
The grim discovery was made at Morpeth Dock this morning, before emergency services were called to recover the body.
In a statement, Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm enquiries are underway following the discovery of a man’s body in Morpeth Dock in Wirral this morning (Tuesday, 9 March 2021).
"Emergency services were called to Morpeth Wharf just before 10.40am to a report that the body of a man had been seen in the water.
"Officers, Coastguard and North West Ambulance Service attended and the man was removed from the water and pronounced dead.
"At this time the death is being treated as unexplained and a post mortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death."
Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and inform next of kin.
