A NEW collective for Wirral musicians has been set up to shape a new future for music in the borough.
Wirral New Music Collective is an independent group of record labels, writers, promoters, visual artists, managers, magazine publishers and musicians who hope to preserve and produce music heritage for years to come.
At the moment, there is no single live venue solely dedicated to new music and little infrastructure to support the local music community.
The collective want to change this and thanks to The Beautiful Ideas Company and Wirral Council, they have set up a live music innovation fund which will give out grants of up to £500 for anyone with a great idea to put on an innovative gig in Wirral this summer from May to September.
Criteria for the funds - the collective are looking for the most ambitious, outlandish, interesting and fantastic ideas for Wirral's most unforgettable summer.
This may include a night of experimental electronica at Birkenhead Priory, heavy dub in Woodside Ferry Terminal or twisted anti-folk in Birkenhead Library.
Any event can include musicians from around the world as long as the event takes place in Wirral and features at least 50% of the borough's artists on the bill.
People can apply to put on shows across Wirral, but there is a particular emphasis on shows taking place in Birkenhead.
If the show breaks even the collective ask that a percentage of the profits go back into the pot.

The closing date for applications is Friday, April 6.
