A TRAIN driver was knocked unconscious after his train derailed and crashed into the buffers at West Kirby station.
Ambulance crews raced to the scene where a train guard was also injured.
Passengers on board the Merseyrail West Kirby to Liverpool service were unhurt, and the two casualties were taken to Arrowe Park Hospital.
British Transport Police said that the collision was at low speed, and that a wall was damaged to the side of the station building.
The area was cordoned off after the incident on Thursday to be examined by structural engineers.
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has been informed of the accident.
