‘Direct action’ is bullying of doctors

I AM writing, regrettably, concerning an ill-informed article entitled “angry pensioners hit back.”

The piece appeared to deal with a newsletter and my stance over certain outrageous attacks by Warrens protestors against the local doctors concerned.

Firstly, the article claims it was from the office of Wirral West MP Stephen Hesford.

This is not true.

The newsletter is published by the local constituency Labour Party. Secondly, it is sensationalist nonsense to suggest that the newsletter had in mind a couple of pensioners as was claimed. That said, the pensioners quoted did not condemn the graffiti attacks - which was the whole point of the piece in the newsletter.

Finally, I stand by what I said.

As was accepted in your article, the graffiti attacks were done by Warren’s protestors euphemistically described as “direct action.”

The difficulty for all right thinking people and the police is that the exact culprits who attacked the doctor’s house cannot be identified for prosecution purposes.

The attacks were designed to intimidate our local doctors into abandoning their much needed plans in a new health centre.

Such criminal acts and bullying must not be allowed to succeed .

Stephen Hesford, Wirral West MP.
